So you want to get started with dye-sublimation printing. But what printer should you get? What printers work for dye-sublimation and how do I know if I’m getting the highest quality printer?
In this article, I’ll explain to you why I think that the Epson WF-7710 is perhaps the best printer for entering into dye-sublimation printing and why exactly it is so good.
What makes a good entry-level printer?
In order to figure out what would be the best printer, first let’s focus on what a good dye-sublimation printer is.
Basically, the best printer is the one that best fits your need. If you’re looking to print on some extravagant materials, or maybe some substrates that are particularly large, you may need to look at a different printer. The WF-7710 can fit a lot of paper sizes, but it may not be the best if you are printing onto huge signs.
So you need a dye-sublimation printer that can fit your basic needs. You’ll also need to find a dye-sublimation printer that isn’t too expensive and can be easily converted (or is already ready) for printing with sublimation inks. This is mainly because expensive printers can really set you back (like several thousand dollars), and if you are first entering the dye-sublimation industry, you’ll need to make sure to keep costs down lest you risk your new business.
You may be thinking of getting a Sawgrass printer, since they are already prepped and ready to go for dye-sublimation printing. However, these printers can be particularly costly, and it may not be in your best interest to go with the expensive option. That’s why looking for one that’s easily adaptable for sublimation inks is key. You can stand to save a significant amount of money by getting a printer that is adaptable to sublimation inks, rather than one that is designed specifically for dye-sublimation printing. After all, there isn’t a whole lot of quality difference between the two, assuming you do a proper job at converting your printer.
Why the Epson-WF7710 Hits all these marks
The reasons listed above are the reason why I think the Epson WF-7710 is easily one of, if not the best entry-level dye-sublimation printer readily available for you.
Whether you are starting a new t-shirt business, or are expanding your current capabilities of your dye-sublimation business, the Epson WF-7710 is a great option for a new dye-sublimation printer.
The Epson WF-7710 is a fairly inexpensive printer, only setting you back about $150 once all is said and done. Despite its relatively low cost, the Epson WF-7710 offers high-quality prints and is an extremely consistent printer. The setup is relatively low, and you really only need to perform semi-regular maintenance to ensure that you always have a high-quality print. Not to mention, that like all other modern printers, the Epson WF-7710 works over WiFi, cable, or direct-to-print. You don’t really have to fear a WiFi issue disrupting your business, you can just switch over to another method.
The Epson WF-7710 can also print on a pretty wide margin of sized papers, and also supports installing a paper-roll up to 34” rolls! I personally use Super-B paper (which is about 13”x19”), and I have never had an issue with printing on my Epson WF-7710. T-shirts, hoodies, beanies, or socks; it doesn’t really matter what you are trying to print on, the Epson WF-7710 likely supports paper large enough for your endeavor.
My favorite part about using an Epson WF-7710 as an entry-level printer into the dye-sublimation industry is easily the conversion kits. You can order a conversion kit right off Amazon (here’s my favorite CISS system for the Epson WF-7710), and you can fully convert your printer over to sublimation inks within a day! It’s super easy, and most kits come with a fairly easy-to-follow guide on converting your printer.
This means that you don’t have to buy a dye-sublimation specialty printer. You can attain the same capabilities, while saving money, by going with a cheaper alternative and an easy-to-use conversion kit.
Overall Review of the Epson WF-7710
I know I’ve been blowing smoke up the Epson WF-7710, but I legitimately believe that this printer is easily the best printer to get for your new dye-sublimation business. I even believe it’s a great option if you are looking to expand your current dye-sublimation business.
The Epson WF-7710 is easy to convert into a dye-sublimation printer, and you won’t have a ton of issues or headache with setting up your printer.
